Boy Scouts of America Engineering Merit Badge

Posted on Oct 1 2019 - 8:23pm

The Barber Museum offers a program to fulfill the requirements of the Boy Scouts of America Engineering Merit Badge. This program is on the move from start to finish and includes a hands-on Build-a-Bike activity, a tour of the largest motorcycle collection in the world, and a short film. With stunning views of the Barber Motorsports Road Course, vehicle exhibits, and restoration shop, the museum offers a thrilling environment in which to learn about the field of engineering.

This opportunity costs $18 per scout, and includes all materials needed for the program, along with the Barber Museum BSA Patch. We do ask that scouts prepare by reading the Engineering Merit Badge book prior to their troop’s scheduled visit. To show troop pride and demonstrate participation as a scout, we ask that scouts wear their uniforms.

Reserve a spot for your scout or their whole troop today!

The Engineering Merit Badge Program will be offered at the Barber Museum on the following Saturdays at 10:00 am. Spaces are limited, so please contact us to reserve your spot.

Annual UA Parking Fundraiser

We're getting closer to starting the college football season and with that our parking fundraiser at the University of Alabama begins.  I wanted to point out a couple of changes for this year and let you know we'll be having a mandatory orientation on Friday September 6th at 6pm.  We'll meet at Redemption Church located at 4176 Hwy 39.

This year we were fortunate enough to be offered 2 additional gates in addition to the 2 from last year.  The 2 new gates are a part of the same residential complex we worked last year so they're close together.  As such, Richard has told us we will need only 1 adult at each of the 3 gates and 1 floater for relief when necessary.  We still need a minimum of 2 adults at the Shelby McMillan lot.  At minimum, we need 6 adults per game.

Signup has been available on the troop website for a while now and all games are still under the minimum of 6.

For each game a family works, $100 will be added to their scouts scout account in February 2020.  Signup is first come first served and the $100 is limited to the first 6 families that sign up.  Free attendance to the game is still available.  More than 6 families can work a game but only the first 6 to sign up are eligible for the $100.

To be fair to everyone, if you have one scout in your family, work one game.  If you have two scouts in your family, work up to two games.  However, if a game does not have 6 adults signed up the week prior to the game and you've already worked your one or two games, go ahead and sign up to work another game and earn another $100.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Brett

Starting now, scouts are eligible to use available funds from their scout account to purchase items from the Scout Shop and Hikers Direct.  Simply present a receipt for items purchased at the Scout Shop and the treasurer will reimburse you.  Once you receive the items you ordered from Hikers Direct, present the packing list and invoice of the items purchased and the treasurer will reimburse you.  A positive balance in the scouts account is required for reimbursement.
